FYI, it’s Mother’s Day, so we hope that all you kiddos out there have called your mamas. And if not, get on that (because she’s def waiting for you to).
There are few relationships more complex, rewarding, and sometimes outright confusing than those between moms and their daughters. Chances are, even if you and your mom are closer than Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, you still have something new to learn from each other.
It’s not always easy for moms and daughters to talk about *certain* things, but to honor Mother’s Day, we found five brave mother-daughter duos who were up to the task.
Women are often taught *not* to discuss “taboo” things: our bodies, health concerns, and pretty much anything having to do with our periods. Moms and daughters probably don’t set out to avoid these topics, but a lot of times, society pushes circumstances out of our control. But, you know as well as we do that sometimes the best way to make change is to normalize what should be normal (can I get an amen?!).
In addition to this hilarious/sweet/gonna-make-you-wanna-call-your-mom video we put together with our sister brand, Icon, this Mother’s Day we’re giving back to Safe Horizon, a nonprofit providing assistance to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Safe Horizon provides critical services that help mothers and children, including childcare in domestic violence shelters, support finding safe housing for life after shelter, and mental health support for families dealing with trauma.
Through 5/14 at 12:00 pm ET, both THINX and Icon will be donating $5 from every pair of undies sold, but you can also celebrate Mother’s Day with us by donating directly to Safe Horizon here.
Call your mothers (or daughters!) today and ask them some of the questions these badass ladies answered in the video today – let us know if you learned anything new in the comments!

Special thanks to Birna & Edda, Candace & Kathy, Lacresha & Xandria, Megan & Sue, and Sen & Shino.
