One of the most heartwarming and inspiring moments at the Golden Globe this year had to be when Tracee Ellis Ross won for Best Actress in a Comedy. I aggressively sobbed during her speech, which means normal humans should shed a few tears, at least.

Ellis Ross, who is the first women of color to win in this category since Debbie Allen won for Fame in 198, took the moment she had on stage to dedicate her award to fellow women of color. “This is for all the women, women of color, and colorful people whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important. But I want you to know that I see you. We see you,” Ellis Ross said to the crowd.

Black-ish, currently in it’s third season, has been praised for the way it handles family, cultural issues and the current political climate (including an upcoming episode about Trump).

“It is an honor to be on this show, Black-ish, to continue expanding to continue expanding the way we are seen and known, and to show the magic and the beauty and the sameness of a story and stories that are outside of where the industry usually looks.”

Ellis Ross not only made our hearts swell from the Golden Globes stage, but the red carpet as well. When asked about the Women’s March in Washington DC, the same weekend after the presidential inauguration. “I wish I could be there, but I can't due to scheduling conflicts" she said. "But just the idea that so many women [are] getting to express ourselves, our power, on that scale is a beautiful thing for the world."
